The former O’s player Wayne Burnett has rejoined the club as Youth Team Manager 16 years after leaving the club.

Born in Lambeth in 1971, Burnett worked his way through the O’s youth ranks and into the first team in the 1989-1990 season, making his full debut at the age of 18.

After 40 appearances and 7 goals from Midfield for the O’s, Wayne moved north to Blackburn.

After a year of disappointment at Ewood Park the midfielder packed his bags and was on the move again. This time time Home Park, Plymouth.

A much more successful 3 year spell at Plymouth saw Burnett notch up over a 100 appearances and score 7 goals.

After Plymouth, the much-travelled Burnett played for Bolton Wanderers, Huddersfield Town, Grimsby Town, Woking, Grays Athletic, Fisher Athletic and Peterborough united before retiring from the playing game aged 35.

Since 2004 Wayne has managed Fisher Athletic (twice), Dulwich Hamlet and Grays Athletic. Managing to get Fisher promoted from the Southern League Division One and into the Blue Square Conference South Division.

Wayne joins the O’s as previous Youth Boss, and former team-mate of Wayne, Kevin Nugent, has since been promoted to Assistant Manager after Geraint Williams’ was put in control of First-Team affairs.
