In an interview with Guardian Series Sport Barry Hearn has hinted that manager Russell Slade may have some money to spend this summer.

This is the first time that an O’s manager will possibly spend money on improving the squad since July 2007, where we spent an undisclosed amount on Wayne Gray from Yeovil.

With the ambitions of the club changing under Slade, some money will be needed to add play-off potential talent to a promising team. Having money to spend on players is a change after four years of relying on frees and loans.

Hearn said : “I think three or four players are on the cards. Slade is on the case and I`m sure there will be an announcement soon.

“We had a nice meeting a few weeks ago and decided on the budgets. We have released some of our profits into improving the squad.”

Hearn has also revealed that he has offered Slade a new deal in the wake of all the speculation linking him with a move away from the club.

He said on Guardian Series Sport: “I will be meeting with Russell Slade and I very much hope he signs the new contract, which is unsigned at present.

“We had a great season, which by the standards of the club was the best campaign for years. A lot of that was down to the manager.

“We want all our people to be wanted by other clubs, but that does not mean we are going to let them go.

“My own job is to look after Leyton Orient and that is what I will do.”

Hopefully Slade will sign a new long term deal and won’t let the obvious frustration of not being allowed to speak to Barnsley detract from what he is building here at Orient.

Do you think Hearn should give Slade money to spend or should we just stick to frees and loans? Leave your comments below….
