All quiet on the contract front

With a host of new players linked to the club in recent weeks, there are still two key stars from last year’s campaign that have yet to decide on their O’s future.

Jamie Jones and Jimmy Smith were both offered new deals nearly a month ago but nothing has either been confirmed or denied about whether they will sign or not.

The long wait may look to be bad news as both players had very good seasons and good possibly be looking to move to a higher level, especially Jones who has been linked with a host of clubs. The Ilford Recorder reports that both players are expected to make decisions on their future this week.

However we had the same sort of issue last season with defender Charlie Daniels. After a storming season it looked like he might leave and he only agreed a new two-year deal with the club at the start of July.

Hopefully both Jones and Smith will sign, though I fear the longer it drags on without news the less likely it is they will stay. It is also key that their futures’ are sorted out soon so Slade can start deciding where exactly he needs to strengthen the squad. If Jones and Smith both go then we definitely need to bring in a new keeper and a wide midfielder.

There has also been little news on utility man Jason Crowe, who was thought to be discussing his future at Brisbane Road. Crowe possibly staying may depend on who Slade chooses to bring in. Whilst defender Scott Cuthbert has already joined, I would think there would still be room for Crowe to stay as cover for defence or midfield.

Do you think Jones and Smith will sign new contracts? Leave your comments below….

Jones has agreed a new deal, apparently. Not sure what Jimmy has planned though

I would think both are waiting to see if they get any other offers, just hope they make up their mind soon…..
