Today, The Bournemouth Echo has reported that Charlie Daniels will leave the Orient and join League One rivals AFC Bournemouth for a bid believed to be worth around £100,000.

The loan window closes tomorrow evening and Bournemouth are said to be discussing personal terms with Daniels in a deal that would see him first join The Cherries on loan before signing permanently in the January transfer window.

There were rumours of Bournemouth’s interest in the past but there has been no previous bids by the Dorset side.

Daniels, who initially joined Orient on loan in 2007 before signing permanently to years later, has become one of Orient’s most influential players since the left sided partnership with Dean Cox was started.

It can be seen as an abberation that Daniels is leaving the club, however, his contract is up in the summer and because Daniels is now twenty-five, their would be no compensation package for Orient should he stay till the season finishes.

What is a problem, however, is how do you solve a problem like Charlie Daniels? It took long enough to replace Matthew Lockwood, the man who Daniels stepped into the shoes of back in 2007.

With Daniels said to be leaving it leaves us on the brink of a defensive crisis. With Elliott Omozusi behind bars and Daniels leaving that would leave us weaker than we already are in full back positions. Our options would be playing Mike Cestor at left-back, a player that Russell Slade doesn’t seem confident in, or weakening our midfield by playing Jimmy Smith at right-back and moving Leon McSweeney to the vacant left-back position.

In a more positive news story, QPR winger Lee Cook is said to be joining Orient today.
