Charlie Daniels has departed East London and agreed to join League One rivals AFC Bournemouth. The fee has been reported by local press in Bournemouth as around the £200,000 mark.

Daniels, 25, was out of contract at Brisbane Road in the forthcoming summer and will initially join the South Coast side on loan before joining permanently in January.

After signing on loan in 2007 from Tottenham Hotspur, Charlie was signed permanently in 2009 in one of Martin Ling’s last actions as Orient manager. Daniels has made 175 appearances for The O’s.

Daniels will sign a three-and-a-half year contract at The Cherries.

What is unbelievable is the sheer lack of ambition shown by our football club. Daniels become one of the best left-sided players in League One last season and just to line Barry Hearn’s pockets, we’ve sold up at the first sign of dollar.

What is more offensive to O’s fans is Barry Hearn’s quotes to the Bournemouth Echo. Our esteemed leader has said;

‘I am relatively satisfied (with the deal) but am never satisfied at losing great players. Charlie scares the life out of people with his pace and is a quality left-back. He would be a valuable addition to any team that signed him.

e has done brilliantly for Leyton Orient and I wish him the very best of luck in his career. He is an exceptionally nice lad and he will be an asset to any side.’

Hearn also added ‘I think he is capable of playing at a higher level.’

This is a slap in the face for Orient fans. Rather than show some ambition, Hearn has seen an opportunity to cash in and further line his pockets.

Hearn could have quite easily offered Charlie a new contract, if he really feels that he [Daniels] has the potential to sign for a team at a higher level.

We now know that Hearn will have pocketed the near £200,000 from this deal and we will not see it re-invested despite the fact we have no full backs at the minute.
