The League 2 season continued with the latest round of games played over the weekend.
Top three Doncaster, Plymouth and Portsmouth all won to remain well placed to secure automatic promotion spots. Despite a Newport win they remain bottom with Leyton Orient in the drop zone with them.

Leaders Doncaster maintained a strong position at the top with a 2-0 victory – this kept Rovers four points clear of Plymouth – over 10 man Cheltenham. The Robins’ defeat was a first in five but they remain seven points clear of trouble.
Barnet rescued a point late on in a 2-2 draw with Crawley at the Hive but the gap to the play-offs is at seven points. As things stand both the Bees and Red Devils are set for another season of League 2 football next term.
A fourth successive Carlisle defeat has seen a bid for the title slip away with a potential play-off spot coming under threat if the form doesn’t improve. Cambridge’s 3-0 win at Brunton Park saw the Cumbrians – who also lost a player to an added time sending off – down to fifth with the U’s now four points away from the play-offs.
Colchester’s play-off bid was dealt a blow when the U’s were thrashed by Portsmouth. This 4-0 win for Pompey kept them in third and opened up a four points cushion between them and the chasing pack in the play-off positions.
Having sacked Graham Westley prior to the game caretaker boss Mike Flynn saw Newport to a 2-1 win at Crewe at Gresty Road to give the Exiles an outside chance of remaining in the Football League. The gap to safety is now nine points after this last minute winner with Alexandra remaining seven points clear of danger.
Exeter saw their promotion hopes dented following a 2-0 defeat against Accrington. The Grecians remain in the fourth and final play-off spot but automatic promotion is now looking unlikely. Stanley made it back-to-back wins – with them now unbeaten in six – to move nine clear of the relegation zone.
Leyton Orient’s survival hopes were dealt a further blow when Grimsby – to close the gap on the top seven to four points – left Brisbane Road with a 3-0 win.
Promotion rivals Luton and Stevenage met at Kenilworth Road with the visitors sealing the points. Boro’s fourth straight win – and eighth in a nine game unbeaten run – took them up to fourth with the top three four points away. The Hatters’ first defeat in seven sees them a couple of places and a point back.
Mansfield missed the chance to move into the top seven when they Stags were beaten 2-0 by title chasing Plymouth. The Pilgrims had won just once in the previous six but these points kept them well clear of the chasing pack and four points off leaders Doncaster.
Back-to-back defeats for Morecambe were suffered when Yeovil – for a first victory in eight – went away from the Globe Arena with a 3-1 win. Both clubs will be safe from the threat of relegation with a midtable finish the aim.
Notts County reacted to a previous defeat – a first in six – with a 2-1 win over Hartlepool to move eight points clear of the bottom two. Pools’ defeat – ending a two game winning run – keeps them a place and a point above the relegation zone.
Wycombe and Blackpool shared the points after a 0-0 draw at Adams Park with both clubs three points off the top seven.
