The Vital Poll

Well, I think we can all agree that being Orient’s top scorer this season is going to be a simple enough task: whoever makes double figures will win the accolade. It’s a damning statistic that no Orient player has knocked in 20 League goals since Peter Kitchen, and the way that everyone’s shaping up this year we’ll be lucky if anyone makes half of that.

Our current list of scorers reads as follows:

Scott McGleish – 5
Own Goals – 3
Tamika Mkandawire – 3
Ryan Jarvis – 2
Andros Townsend – 2
JJ Melligan – 1
Jimmy Smith – 1

It’s not exactly inspiring, is it? Having a centre back and the opposition as your joint second-highest scorers a third of the way into the season is pretty pathetic. It’s also hard to see where challengers to McGleish’s status as top goalscorer are going to come from. Andros Townsend is very capable of coming up with a goal or two, but he’s only with us until January; Adrian Patulea has two in the Cup, but has barely featured in the League; Ryan Jarvis isn’t ever going to be a regular goalscorer at this level.

Then there’s those players who have yet to even get off the mark… yes, James Scowcroft, I’m talking about you. Awful. You can add the woefully out of form Jason Demetriou to the list of culprits, as well as Ben Chorley who will be disappointed not to have used his massive frame more effectively in the penalty box.

Accordingly, your votes have reflected this paucity of options. The final results are as follows:

Scott McGleish: 49%
Someone else: 17%
Adrian Patulea: 16%
James Scowcroft: 10% (hahaha)
Ryan Jarvis: 8%

Could ‘someone else’ be Tam, own goals, or a loanee? Who knows, but people rate their chances better than any of the three other established strikers in the squad. Entertainingly, two-goal Ryan Jarvis is rated as a lesser chance of finishing top scorer than the other two donkeys. Well, just goes to show what we think of him, eh?
