Orient`s Efe Echanomi completed 90 minutes on his return to reserve team action but the striker failed to hit the target as a youthful O`s side lost 2-1 at Northampton Town.

The O`s had levelled the game at 1-1 with Loick Pires`s second half strike cancelling out James Quinn`s opener.

However, the Cobblers scored the winner via the penalty spot with fifteen minutes remaining thanks to former Orient midfielder, David Hunt.

The O`s trailed as early as the seventh minute with Hunt picking out Quinn and the Northern Irish international converted past trialist goalkeeper, Yannis Karypidis.

The visitors equalised just four minutes into the second half as Pires pounced on a loose ball, after Kemp`s header had rebounded off the Cobbler`s crossbar.

However, it was left to Hunt to have the final word as the former O`s man lashed home a penalty after the referee had seen a handball in the Orient penalty area.

Orient assistant manager Dean Smith said: ‘The youngsters did exceptionally well against a very experienced Northampton side. It was a good exercise for us and it was pleasing to see Efe Echanomi to come through 90 pain-free minutes. Derek Duncan put in an excellent performance too, so even though the result didn’t go our way, there were still plenty of positives to take from the game.’

Orient: Yannis Karypidis; Allan Matthews, Jamal Fyfield, Frankie Webb, Tom Kemp; Solomon Shields, Kieran Murtagh (Adam Bolle 85), Jack Page (Scott Grange 60), Derek Duncan; Loick Pires (Adam Marsh 85), Efe Echanomi.
