Cultured performances from strikers Kevin Lisbie and Ryan Brunt were the spring board for Orient to hammer Yeovil Town last night. Both of The O’s frontmen got on the scoresheet as Orient cruised to victory.
A win last night saw Orient continue their unbeaten run with the 4-4-2 formation, a run that now stands at three victories in the past three games.
Orient came out firing last night and were one up after three minutes through Ben Chorley. Nathan Clarke’s long throws caused Yeovil problems all night and the first goal come from a Clarke throw.
Orient were two up after twenty-five minutes through Brunt. The tall Stoke loanee was a thorn in Yeovil’s side all evening and had the ball in the net twice, although one was disallowed for offside against his partner Lisbie. Brunt’s goal came on the back of a sensational ball from Lee Cook. Cook looked up and picked out Brunt at the far post with a diagonal ball that wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Champions League.
The half ended 2-0 to the home side and Yeovil’s back five, including ex-Orient loanee Marek Stech, looked at disarray and I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who thought thee game was over. However, in typical Orient fashion, we didn’t make it easy for ourselves.
The visitors, backed by a fan with a bell and a Green Santa hat, came out after the break firing and for fifteen or so minutes, dominated the game. Their spell of superiority was matched with a goal from Sam Foley. A cross came in from the Yeovil left and Leon McSweeney was caught ball watching as Foley, the man McSweeney should have been aware of, nodded home.
The two goal cushion and Orient’s domination was restored through Jimmy Smith. Smith was quiet throughout the match but popped up in the right place to stroke Gary Sawyer’s corner home.
Lisbie, who must have covered every blade of grass on the lush playing surface of Brisbane Road, rounded off the scoring when he was played through and rolled the ball through Stech’s legs.
Sub Affy Obafemi, a youth team striker, had a chance of making it five when he was played through by Moses Odubajo but Stech managed to get a strong hand to Obafemi’s strike.
