Leyton Orient have made their most important deal of the summer by ensuring that manager Russell Slade stays at Brisbane Road.

The rumours of Slade becoming Barnsley’s next manager intensified this evening, with Slade becoming the favourite for the job. But tonight the O’s have confirmed that Barnsley’s approach to talk to him has been rejected by the club.

Barry Hearn has said on leytonorient.com: “Russ is vitally important to this football club and after the season we have just had we sat down last week and shook hands on a new contract for him.

“We have a job to do here next season and we want Russ at the helm so our response to Barnsley was that they would need to look elsewhere for their next manager.”

This is fantastic news as keeping Slade at the football club was key to any future success, especially on the back of such a memorable campaign last year. The club’s assurances that Slade will stay may also ensure that some of our key players stay in East London.

This new contract for the manager will hopefully be followed by a couple of key signings over the next few months and everyone at the club can push forward next season under Russell Slade.

Are you pleased that Slade will be staying with the O’s? Leave your comments below….
