The League 2 season continued with the latest round of games played during midweek.
Doncaster’s win took them clear of title rivals Plymouth and Carlisle. Portsmouth are closing in on the top three with the bottom two looking likely to be Leyton Orient and Newport.

A late Cambridge fightback wasn’t enough to prevent leaders Doncaster from leaving the Abbey Stadium with the points. Rovers’ 3-2 win – a first in six – saw them open up a six point lead at the top of the League 2 table.
Plymouth retain 2nd place but the Pilgrims’ winless run was extended to four when they were beaten 1-0 by Notts County. This win – a third in five games unbeaten – at Home Park took the Magpies eight points clear of the relegation zone.
Having seen a lead lost Accrington fought back to secure a 2-2 draw with Wycombe. Stanley did drop to 21st but a third draw in four unbeaten keeps them six points clear of trouble. The Chairboys point ended a run of five defeat.
Blackpool’s seventh draw in 10 games was secured at Barnet. However, after being two down Pools would have accepted a 2-2 draw at Bloomfield Road. The Bees’ winless run was extended to three to see further ground lost on the top seven.
A third straight Cheltenham win was secured by a late goal in a 1-0 victory – to move the Robins nine points clear of relegation trouble – over Carlisle. This defeat for the Cumbrians at Whaddon Road was a third in the last five to see their advantage in an automatic promotion spot reduced to two points.
An added time goal for Crawley was nothing more than a consolation in a 2-1 defeat against Exeter. The Grecians’ first win in five kept them well placed to secure a play-off spot – in fact a top three spot is just four points away.
Grimsby’s second win in three has helped revive play-off aspirations. The Mariners’ 1-0 over Colchester – who had won their previous two – at Blundell Park took them to within five points of the top seven and cost the U’s their place in it.
The Hartlepool struggles ended in emphatic fashion with a 4-0 win over Crewe – who are now without a win in three – to draw Alexandra back into the relegation battle. A first win in seven took Pools six points clear of second bottom Leyton Orient.
It’s now five unbeaten for Portsmouth but a late Morecambe – who have lost just once in the last 10 – equaliser in this 1-1 draw at Fratton Park cost Pompey the chance of moving into an automatic promotion spot. Paul Cook’s side remain in 4th place but closed to within two points of Carlisle and have a game in hand.
Stevenage’s sixth win in seven took them into a play-off spot. Boro trashed Leyton Orient 4-1 to leave Orient second bottom and six points from safety after an eighth defeat in 10.
Yeovil claimed a fifth draw in six after holding promotion-chasing Mansfield at Huish Park. The Stags’ 0-0 draw cost them a place in the top seven with them replaced by Stevenage.
