The League 2 season continued with the latest round of games played over the weekend.
Doncaster saw their lead cut at the top by Plymouth – both are well clear in the automatic promotion spots. Newport remain bottom of the Football League with Leyton Orient just above them.

League 2 leaders Doncaster extended their lead at the top by another point. However, a 0-0 draw at Newport on Friday opened the door to title rivals Plymouth to close the gap on Saturday. The Exiles unbeaten run was extended to five but with just one of these games won Football League security is still some way off.
Plymouth made the most of Doncaster’s dropped points to close to within three points – they also have a game in hand – after a 3-0 win over Devon rivals Exeter. This defeat for the Grecians ended a seven game winning run and was a first lost in 10.
One win in the last seven for Carlisle sees their automatic promotion spot under threat. The 4-1 defeat at Brunton Park against Blackpool – a first win in seven with five drawn – means they are just three points clear of the chasing pack. Pools’ win took them to within six points of a play-off place.
The battle between the sides looking to force their way into the top seven was won by Colchester. They beat Barnet – who have now failed to win in four – 2-1 at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Crewe ended their winless run with a first win in 10 claimed in emphatic style when Alexandra thrashed Grimsby 5-0 at Gresty Road. This win eased the home sides relegation worries with the Mariners’ play-off hopes damaged with them now three without a win.
A 2-1 win for Luton against Crawley took the Hatters up to 4th and to within three points of the automatic promotion spots.
The fourth straight win – in an eight game unbeaten run – from Mansfield took them into the top seven after a 4-0 win over Hartlepool. This heavy defeat for Pools made it two in the last four meaning relegation concerns – despite the five point advantage they hold – remain.
Successive Morecambe wins were secured – as they extended an unbeaten run to six – when they beat Cambridge 2-0 at the Globe Arena. The U’s hopes of making the play-off took another blow.
Notts County secured the points in the battle of the relegation threaten sides when a 2-1 win over Cheltenham took the Magpies three points clear of trouble. The Robins’ first defeat in four kept them above their hosts on goal difference alone.
A first Portsmouth win in three came when Pompey beat Accrington 2-0 to remain in the play-off places and remain in automatic promotion contention. Stanley’s first defeat in three means they are now just three points above the bottom two.
Stevenage’s third straight win kept Boro very much in play-off contention. However, this Wycombe defeat – a second in the last three – saw them drop out of the top seven.
The Yeovil unbeaten run was extended to three after a 1-1 draw with Leyton Orient. The Orient draw – secured by an equaliser two minutes from time – ended a six game losing run but it wasn’t enough to take them out of the relegation zone.
