Wednesday 15th March 2017 – LEAGUE TWO
Barnet v Yeovil Town 20:00
Doncaster will remain top of League 2 whatever the outcome against Notts County. However, the leader would aim to maintain a better chance of retaining the four point advantage – at least – they have by collecting all three points. But the Magpies – who have lost just once in seven – will look for another win at the Keepmoat Stadium to keep well clear of the bottom two.
Accrington look for a third straight win when second bottom Leyton Orient visit. Stanley’s six game unbeaten run has taken them nine points clear of Orient – who have lost four of the last five – to sit six points from safety.
If Blackpool can continue a six game unbeaten run with a third win in four against in-form Stevenage they could move into the top seven. However, other results would have to go the way of Pools for this with Boro winning eight of nine games unbeaten to sit just four points off an automatic position.
Cambridge’s weekend win brought the U’s back into play-off contention as the gap was closed to four points. Hartlepool – who saw a two game winning run ended with defeat on Saturday – are just a place but six points clear of danger heading to the Abbey Stadium.
Four successive defeats has seen Carlisle drop from third to fifth and four points off the automatic position. Promotion rivals Luton – a place and a point behind – go to Brunton Park looking to react to a first defeat in seven.
Colchester’s play-off bid was dealt a hefty blow after a heavy defeat at the Weston Homes Community Stadium against promotion rivals Portsmouth on Saturday. The U’s welcome Mansfield – a place and two points off the top seven – for this one with both seeking the points to keep in play-off contention.
It’s now four without a win for Crawley who welcome struggling Crewe – who have lost three of the last four – to Broadhall Way. Alexandra are only a couple of places but seven points clear of the bottom two.
Exeter bid to avoid a third successive defeat to ensure they remain in the top seven. Cheltenham visit St James Park – having lost for a first time in five – to take on the Grecians who know anything but a win and they could drop out of the play-offs places.
After successive defeats Morecambe look to get back on track to finish in midtable against bottom of the league Newport. A first win in eight for the Exiles has given then a little hope of Football League survival but they are still nine points from safety.
Portsmouth’s two wins last week took them into the top three with Pompey now four points clear of the chasing pack. Grimsby’s current run of form would suggest they’ll lose at Fratton Park but the Mariners know a win could close the four points between them and the top seven.
Three points and several places keep Wycombe outside of the play-off places ahead of the visit to Adams Park of title chasing Plymouth. The Pilgrims – who have only won twice in the last six – are four points adrift of leaders Doncaster but 10 points clear of the chasing play-off teams.
If Barnet’s recent run of form continues into a sixth game the Bees would suffer defeat on Wednesday. Yeovil would hope that to be the case and look to build on a first win in eight when heading to the Hive.
It goes without saying the expectation; most definitely the hope at least, will be for a positive result. But will this happen? We’ll find out soon enough.
