With Orient already short on striking options due to the long term injury of Efe Echanomi, Steele’s injury has come as a big blow to Martin Ling’s side in this busy festive period. Steele left the field of play after 39 minutes at Wycombe due to a strained hamstring. His goal last night was his 3rd in his past four and it appeared that he was just starting to find his goalscoring form following his double hernia operation earlier this year. His injury means that with games against Notts County and Boston United in the next few days, Orient will be severely short of firepower.

Steele looks set to be out for at least two weeks and with little time in between the opening of the transfer window and the game at Boston on January 2nd, Orient are left with the prospect of having just two fit strikers with Gary Alexander and Jabo Ibehre leading the line. With Steele unavailable,Martin Ling will surely have to dip into the transfer market for another striker if Orient are to maintain their promotion charge.
