Russell Slade was utterly delighted with the O’s performance today as we dominated Tranmere.

Speaking to the press following the game, the manager said.

‘I thought that it was a pulsating game, they are the league leaders and we stayed on the front foot for virtually the entire game. I thought we played some of the best football we’ve done all season. Off the back of the defeat in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, the lads deserve all the credit for that.’

Slade added that he thought we should’ve really put the game to bed in the first half, but staying strong in the second period was pleasing to see, as was hanging on for all three points.

Slade was also delighted to see Charlie MacDonald grab his goal and get the ‘monkey off his back’, and after being disappointed that he’d missed chances in other games, this should really boost him and get his confidence rocking. He also had praise for Martin Rowlands, and he thinks he reacted perfectly to missing the earlier pen, by firing in the winner.
