Brian Saah has spoken of his delight after signing a new contract which will keep him at Brisbane Road until the summer of 2009. The young defender has improved tremendously this season after converting from his midfield role into a central defender and is pleased to continue his learning process under the tutelage of Martin Ling.

Speaking to Leytonorient.com after signing the 2 ½ year deal, Saah said: “I feel like I’ve been playing well this season so to be rewarded with a new contract is very pleasing – hopefully it will bring many successes both for the club and myself. “This has been my most productive season at Orient. I’ve played quite a few games and I’m happy to be playing a role in helping the club to secure its position in League One for next season. It could have been a long process making the transition from central midfield to centre back, but I’ve worked hard on my game, watched and learned a lot of things and I’m happy with the way it has gone.”

Saah, who made his debut as a 16-year-old in September 2003, has played over fifty first team games and is more than grateful to Martin Ling for giving him his big chance.

“There have been quite a lot of youngsters who have gone on to play first team football at Orient recently and this is a club that is willing to give youth a chance. I’ve come through the ranks with a lot of my friends and we’re all in and around the first team, so obviously it is a more comfortable environment for us when we make that step up. It is definitely a positive thing to have so many homegrown players here and I think it is a good indication of how strong our youth scheme is.”

Saah is now hoping to help Orient retain their League One status before embarking on what he hopes will be a more successful campaign next season.

“For the immediate future I just want to secure our future in League One. We can then start afresh for next year and we’ll look for an improvement. It’s up to us as players to perform and work hard so we can do something more positive next season.”
