Orient`s longest serving player Matt Lockwood became the first of Orient`s ten out-of-contract players to commit their future to the club on Thursday when he signed a new two-year-deal.

The PFA nominated left back has signed until the end of the 2008/9 season, but there is an option for a further year written into the contract.

And manager Martin Ling was delighted to tie down his influential full back for his 10th and 11th campaigns in E10

He said: ‘I’m delighted that Matthew has signed for two years with another year’s option.

‘He is a very important component of the team and this new contract, which takes him into his 10th and 11th years at the club, will mean he is rewarded with a testimonial.

‘Matt is a big part of our plans to move forward from this season and it’s very pleasing that he has signed so quickly.

‘He is the first of the ten who have been offered new deals to sign and I hope that the others follow suit shortly.’
