The O’s have become one of the most stable clubs in League One. As Orient supporters we often endure seasons in the division that leave us pulling our hair out by the end of the campaign.

However, one thing the club does not do is going anywhere near some of the issues that ultimately threaten the future of a football club. We owe this to the solidity and sense of the people behind the scenes at the O’s who do a fantastic job day in and day out.

The club have stabilised in League One and are now looking to push on. Of course it’s naive to make predictions at such an early stage in the season but Mr. Porter believes the O’s can do well this season.

He said: ‘I’m not a big fan of making predictions but I would hope we could finish in the top half of the table. My main expectation is that we have a much better home record than last season (despite Friday) and hopefully a cup run.’

The O’s have started their League Cup campaign very well with a victory away at Swindon. However, two back to back defeats in the league and a difficult trip this weekend away to Southampton threaten the good work that has been done during pre-season.

‘Pre-season was excellent. The main advantage from the football perspective is that Russ had all his signings in place by the time training started again so they have been able to work together for six weeks rather than arrive in dribs and drabs,’ he added, ‘Commercially we’re starting to pick up again after the recession hit us hard last year and the Ticket Office and stadium team were busy too so overall I would say it was a positive summer period.’

The O’s are also a club heavily involved in activity away from the field. The club is lucky to have a very charismatic chairman in Barry Hearn who is able to secure positive sponsorship for the club who will enjoy the O’s being able to perform live on Sky (despite the iffy results).

‘It will be great exposure for our new sponsors such as ebmpapst, who are on the back of the shirts, and others like partycasino.com, our title sponsor. It’s always nice to have the TV cameras down and it gives the place a bit of a buzz, but it’s a shame we couldn’t deliver on the night.’

So the message is a simple one. Keep the faith and keep turning out in support. Orient like to try and give a little bit back to the fans and the regular open days allow player and fan interaction. Get a win on the board very soon and we will fly up the table.

Mr. Porter added: ‘The fans seemed to really enjoy it this year [the open day] and so did the players, it was good to see. There will be other events though, like the Fans Cup which goes down so well every summer and others which we have in the pipeline.’

Up the O’s!
