JJ Melligan has had his Orient contract terminated by mutual consent after two and a half years at Brisbane Road.

Melligan, who was three short of a century of appearances in an Orient shirt, has left the club despite his contract running out at the end of the current season. The winger made 19 of those 97 this season.

Orient VitalFootball has been told by sources close to Melligan that things came to a head after Tuesday’s 5-0 hammering of Bristol Rovers. Melligan was said to be very annoyed that Geraint Williams chose Jimmy Smith to go on as sub ahead of JJ and let Williams know this.

JJ never worked out at the club and will be remembered by many for being a bit too friendly with man’s downfall, beer. The Dublin born man could often be found in Epping High Street in the early hours of Sunday Morning, staggering with a pint in hand.
