After months of speculating, Russell Slade has delighted Orient fans everywhere by agreeing a long-term contract at the club. Slade has now signed a contract that will take him through until the end of the 2013-14 season.

After being refused permission by Barry Hearn to talk to Championship side Barnsley, it was expected that Russell would run down his contract and leave the club at the end of the current season to move back North to his wife and children, who live in Yorkshire.

However, there was histeria amongst Orient fans last night (Monday) when it was announced that the gaffer had signed for another two-and-a-half years.

The hugely popular figure amongst Orient fans has transformed the club since arriving in April 2010. His energetic movements on the touchline and his decision to have his side playing nice football has seen him win the hearts of Orient fans.

Having taken over in April 2010, Russell’s first job was to ensure survival in League One, something he achieved whilst breathing a new lease of life into the club.

Last season, 2010-11, saw an unforgettable season for so many reasons as the club went on an unbeaten run of 14 league games, beat Norwich City and Swansea City before drawing with Arsenal in the FA Cup and finishing agonisingly close to a play-off position.

This is great news for the club as a whole. The fans love Slade’s enthusiasm and his philosophy of great football, the players have a huge confidence in the man and players will now be offered contracts knowing Russell’s confidence in the club and the chairman.
