The O’s boss believes Stephen Purches early goal settled the nerves at Brisbane Road on Saturday and set the O’s up nicely for the rest of the afternoon.

Speaking to the leytonorient.com, the official O’s site, he noted that ‘…The afternoon was always going to be nervy due to just the one-goal advantage…” and that ‘…Scoring early on helped the O’s to settle…”

The Manager also had praise for his defence too who had to withstand a barrage of free-kicks and corners ‘…There was a lot of physical pressure, free-kicks, corners and long throws and I thought they stood up to it brilliantly..’ he told teamtalk.com.

Williams’ also made note on the psychological side of things for the O’s in his interview with the official site. He stated: ‘I’m sure the players will enjoy the fact we’re out of the bottom four, but it doesn’t fool anyone because teams have got three games in hand on us.

‘What it means is that we’ve picked up three points and that we still need to pick up a lot more between now and the end of the season.

‘If it’s that position at the end of the year everyone will be happy, but tonight it just means we’ve won on this occasion and other teams haven’t.’
