Leyton Orient finally registered their first home win of the season as they defeated Northampton 2-0 in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Jay Simpson raced clear of the Northampton defence on the 28th minute to fire the O’s ahead before Marvin Bartley sealed the win with his first goal of the season on the 89th minute.

Orient started the match brightly but squandered a number of chances through Simpson and Dagnall before the pair combined well to put the O’s in front.

On receiving the ball on the halfway line, Dagnall flicked a first time pass through to Simpson who beat the offside trap and swept the ball beyond Matt Duke.

Simpson’s goal was the only one Orient had to show at the break but Northampton grew into the tie during the second half with Kaid Mohamed missing a guilt edged chance.

As he fourth official prepared to show added time however Dagnall cut into the box from the left and set the ball to Bartley who precisely side footed the ball into the far corner.

The win sees Orient progress to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Southern Section Semi-Final which will be drawn on Saturday December 15, live on SoccerAM.
