Leyton Orient had to battled at Deepdale for a hard earned point as they denied the hosts to chance to make three successive wins at home.

Jamie Jones was in fine form displaying excellent shot stopping skills as he was put to the ultimate test by an attacking Lilywhites.

In bitterly cold conditions, the game started slowly as neither side created any real opportunities inside the first ten minutes.

Indeed the first major incident of the match came just after 17 minutes after an awkward collision between Preston striker Stuart Beavon and O`s captain Nathan Clarke. Both men clashed heads and went down injured with Beavon suffering the most damage out of the two as he had to be substituted with concussion.

From the resulting free kick awarded to Preston, the home side had their opening chance. From Nicky Wroe`s delivery Bailey Wright connected with a volley which forced Jamie Jones into action as he pushed the ball away.

The home side then kicked on from creating their first opportunity as they looked to grab the lead. With 37 minutes on the clock Jack King was denied twice in moments thanks to some last ditch defending, seconds later the ball fell to Will Hayhurst whose effort beat Jones only for Clarke to make a goalline clearance.

Orient were desperately hanging on until half time. Jack King once again had an effort, this time from 15 yards out which appeared to be soaring into the top corner only for the cat-like reactions of Jones to repel the shot away from danger.

The O`s survived until the break and made more of a contest of the match in the second period.

Chances were a little harder to come by for Preston as the Orient defence held resolute for the remaining 45 minutes.

Lee Holmes was the most dangerous threat from the Preston wing as he kept asking questions of the visitors` defence with his delivery from wide, but Clarke and company held firm.

The last moment for Simon Grayson`s troops fell to Nicky Wroe as he lashed a curling effort towards the top right corner of Jones`s net only to be denied again by a superb reflex stop by the Liverpudlian.

Orient manage to deny the Lilywhites any further chances as they claimed a valuable point.
