Portsmouth’s new midfield signing Romain Padovani has revealed how he spent time on trail at Leyton Orient before agreeing to a switch to Pompey and life in League 2.

The Frenchman was released by AS Monaco and had been on trail with the Hampshire side before joining last week.

But Padovani commented on how Russell Slade took him and 15 other players on trial recently.

Talking to truebluearmy website, the Frenchman spoke of his week at Orient.

‘There were 16 players on trial and I was the only one kept back. I was able to train with them for a few days. The manager (Slade) liked me a lot. He asked me to come back the following week or in pre-season, but without the guarantee of a contract.’

The 23 year old then successfully won a contract at Fratton Park to begin his adventure into English Football.

Whilst it is disappointing to miss out on potential new players, gaffer Slade must have had his reasons for not wanting to offer Padovani an immediate contract.

VitalOrient wishes Romain the best of luck in his football career in England.
