Dean Cox scored an 84th minute equaliser as Leyton Orient held Premier League side QPR to a 2-2 draw at Brisbane Road.

Romain Vincelot put the O’s ahead with an early header that Junior Hoilett cancelled out midway through the first half. Joey Barton scored a free kick minutes after the restart to give QPR the lead before Cox equalised with six minutes remaining.

Gary Woods made his first start for Orient this pre-season but the friendly came too soon for new signing Jobi McAnuff who was in the crowd.

Orient started the match well and with ten minutes played Romain Vincelot rose well to head a Dean Cox cross from the right past the dive of R’s keeper Robert Green.

The O’s lead did not last long however as Junior Hoilett equalised for the visitors nine minutes later with a drilled effort from 25 yards.

Russell Slade was then made to shuffle his pack a few minutes later when Scott Cuthbert went off injured and was replaced by Shaun Batt, meaning Bradley Pritchard moved to right back.

With the match level at half-time, QPR took the lead two minutes after the restart through a fine free-kick from captain Joey Barton.

As the match approached its final stages both David Mooney and Chris Dagnall were denied by Green but the R’s stopper could do nothing to deny Cox with six minutes remaining.

The O’s winger worked some space inside the box and placed a left footed effort low into the bottom corner past the reach of Green to hand the O’s a deserved equaliser.

The draw was no more than what Orient deserved and manager Russell Slade will be able to take many positives from the match.

Orient return to Brisbane Road on Saturday for their final game of pre-season against Ipswich Town.

Orient: Woods, Cuthbert (Batt 24), Baudry (Okosun 46), Clarke, Omozusi, Pritchard, James, Vincelot, Cox, Lisbie (Dagnall 67), Mooney (Kashket 81)
