Leyton Orient were dumped out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy thanks in particular to a crazy first half which saw five goals and one sending off.

The visitors got off to the worse possible start conceding inside three minutes when a Luke Freeman cross was bundled home by Francois Zoko.

Failing to settle the O’s were once again punished ten minutes later when Filipe Morais cross was met by Lucas Akins to nod the hosts into a two goal advantage.

Orient had to step it up a gear and soon found a response when David Mooney pulled one back who neatly volleyed home after the ball fell to him inside the penalty area.

But as soon as the visitors thought they were back in it they had succumbed to another Boro attack. Freeman’s shot was blocked by Omozusi’s hand inside the box and referee Adcock pointed to the spot. Morais stepped up and despite Jamie Jones getting a hand to his effort he could not stop him from making it 3-1.

In an action packed first half Orient began to turn the screw looking for way back into the contest and they got it as Roarie Deacon was sent off for fouling Shaun Batt when clean through on goal.

The match had appeared to settle but just before the break Orient were awarded a penalty themselves when Jayden Stockley was adjudged to have been fouled in the box. Lloyd James just about made it 3-2 from the penalty despite the best efforts of Chris Day.

The second half saw Orient begin to dominate as ten man Stevenage tried to hold on to their lead.

Mooney forced a fine stop out of Day early in the period whilst Marvin Bartley when close with a controlled volley.

Robbie Simpson made his debut for the O’s but they struggled to create any clear cut opportunities as the home team defended resolutely.

With time up Graham Westley’s men had successfully held on as they progressed to the regional semi-finals with the O’s crashing out.
