Preston North End grabbed the points at Brisbane Road on Saturday with a fine team performance as Orient struggled to live up to their recent displays.

A goal from Joe Garner just after the half hour mark was enough to separate the sides as the Lancashire outfit became the first team beat the O`s this season at home.

The visitors began the game the brighter, with Paul Gallagher and Garner both having attempts on goal.

Orient were also pressing for an opener but were unable to create too many opportunities as Preston held firm defensively.

With Orient starting to get a head of steam in the match the Lilywhites punished them on the counter attack. A poor decision in the Preston area by Moses Odubajo allowed the visitors to counter attack down the right with through Chris Humphrey. With his initial cross defended the ball fell to Keith Keane who found Garner in the area with a perfect delivery which the striker converted excellently.

Orient couldn`t find an answer before half time in a frustrating opening period for the hosts in front of a 7,000 crowd.

The second half saw Preston come out with the confidence of a goal lead and they almost made it two through goalscorer Garner, but as he was about to shoot Scott Cuthbert`s last ditch challenge ushered the ball out for a corner.

The east Londoners had to up their game and inspiration came through substitute Shaun Batt. His pace and strength were causing the away defence problems as Orient began to impose themselves on the game with a series of free kicks and corners.

But despite this Orient had failed to create a decent opportunity to equalise. With the game deep into injury time the O`s arguably had their best chance of the game through sub Robbie Simpson. One on one with the keeper at an angle, he could only smash his shot straight into Declan Rudd`s midriff as North End held on for a valuable three points.
