Leyton Orient made it hard for themselves but after a first round replay and fighting off a Dagenham & Redbridge comeback in the second leg, the O’s are through to the second round of the FA Cup.

After a draw in the first round, Orient and the Daggers met last night at Brisbane Road to decide who would face Droylsden in the second round.

Goals from Scott McGleish (2) and in-form striker Alex Revell sealed the O’s victory despite Paul Green and Soloman Taiwo giving the away side a chance in the second-half.

The O’s had taken a 2-0 lead after Scotty slotted the ball home after only 82 seconds and Revell added a second in the 24th minute. But in typical O’s fashion we conceded twice in two minutes to again throw away a lead.

Green firstly converted a penalty and then Taiwo scored a long-range equaliser. But this time Orient saved themselves thanks to the experienced head of McGleish 14 minutes from the end.

It may not have been as impressive as Saturday’s league victory at Bristol Rovers but the game is another push in the right direction for the O’s.

A cup run acts as a nice distraction from the constant worry of the league and lets the O’s fans optimistically dream about Wembley, or at least a lucrative Premier League third round tie!
