Leyton Orient and Southend United played out an entertaining friendly in a behind closed doors match at Southend’s Boots and Laces training ground.

It was the first time both sides have met since the infamous JPT regional final exit in February.

The O’s had two trialists in the squad, with Goalkeeper Tommy Forecast and Alex Addai joining the squad.

Orient nearly got to a fantastic start as they nearly grabbed the lead just after a minute when Shaun Batt hit a terrific volley which bounced off the post to safety.

The O’s were made to pay for a decent opening as the hosts scored. Dan Fitchett managed to beat Forecast as the ball looped into the top corner.

The O’s soon levelled proceedings. Kevin Lisbie was fouled in the box after being played through by trailist Addai. Lisbie missed the penalty but was able to pounce on the rebound to level the scores.

Into the second period and the visitors managed to take the lead. Lisbie again was the scorer, firing into the bottom corner from just outside the area after good interplay between the Orient players.

A few minutes later the east Londoners made it three. A supreme pass from Mathieu Baudry in defence was equally matched by the control and finish from David Mooney.

Orient had appeared to have wrapped up the match but the Shrimpers dug in to draw the contest. Josh Rees and Mark Carrington fired home late on to share the spoils of an entertaining pre-season clash.

Orient: Forecast, Sawyer, Baudry (Vanderhyde 80), Cuthbert (C), Omozusi; Addai (Clarke 45), James (Lee 55), Vincelot, Odubajo (Georgiou 67), Batt (Mooney 45), Lisbie (Sherratt 80)
