Matt Lockwood has left Leyton Orient and joined league one rivals Nottingham Forest.

The fee is unknown but it thought that Orient had to accept a bid from Forest as there was a release clause in Lockwoods contract.

It is a sad day for Orient as Lockwood is by far the best left-back in the division. His technical and general footballing ability will definitely be missed at Brisbane road.

The 30-year-old was just 107 appearances short of Peter Allen’s all-time record appearances.

This is the worst time to lose Lockwood with pre-season starting yesterday. Manager Martin Ling has another headache to replace Lockwood, as although he would be keen to give Aiden Palmer a chance he needs competiton for the left-back slot. Palmer certainly has a bright future however it is probabaly too soon for him to be a solid league one left back.

VitalOrient would like to thank Matt Lockwood for his service to the club. Especially as he has had previous opportunitites (notably Millwall, where a fee was agreed)to leave the club. He will certainly be remembered fondly at Brisbane road.
