Former Leyton Orient skipper John Mackie has joined League Two side Brentford.

The Bees, who were relegated from League One after a disappointing season, will now look to fight for automatic promotion under the guidance of new boss Terry Butcher.

Mackie, who played 132 appearances for the O`s, skippered the team to promotion from League Two in 2005/6 and was an integral part of what was a successful Orient side.

The former Reading player becomes Butcher`s first signing since the ex-England captain arrived at Griffin Park.

‘He’s a strong leader who has captained a Club to promotion from League Two and he will be a good influence on the younger pros,” said Butcher

“He is a winner who is prepared to put his body on the line and is exactly the type of player we are looking for’.
